Updated: Jan 31, 2024

Report on our January 2024 meeting.

Chairman June welcomed members and guests and wished us all a Happy New Flower Club

Year. We wished our President Elsie a very Happy 80th Birthday. Apparently celebrations were

ongoing and the postman where she lives is going to be mighty happy when the cards stop arriving. His arms are getting longer by the day.

Clubs subs are due now so please make payment to Sue asap. Open meeting tickets for

Thursday 25 th April when the demonstrator will be Lorena Dyer – Lipstick, Powder and Paint, will beavailable at our February meeting, also from Sue.

Details of our March “Hands on Workshop” which will be run by our very own Paula are

available on the notice board including a full list of requirements. We now also have a suggestion

book available near the noticeboard. If you have any good ideas of places to visit, things to do, tipsetc please do write them in the booklet. Each suggestion will be discussed at our committee

meetings.

There will be a terrific celebration of our 70th Anniversary of NAFAS Show, in Hunstanton in

June. More details later. There will also be a Group Open Meeting on 28 th June. This will be held in Kesgrave Community Centre starting at 2pm. (Doors open at 1pm) The demonstrator will be Rekha Nando’s – “Inspirations of India”. Again more details later.

The winner of the Practice piece for Novice was Paula and for Advanced was Jane Addison.

Winner of the Single Stem was Lorna Davis. The rest of this report cannot be truly expressed to its full capacity on paper. The demonstrator was Gill McGregor from Herts – Floral Jewels. From the very start it was obvious we were in for a wonderful evening. Six of the most amazing arrangements came to life on the stage as Gill regaled us with stories from her life. If she ever tells you the “Boy eats Slug” story just be prepared. They taste pretty much like worms apparently. Using her skills, Gill tried to teach us how to perform leaf manipulation on Kentia Palm. Her instructions were clear and concise, and she made it look really easy, but I for one, would make an almighty mess of it I’m sure. Using lots of stunning flowers including Roses, Orange Gerbera, Lime Green Chrysanthemums and beautiful Lily’s the stage became alive with her colourful designs. Some members were lucky enough to win one of these arrangements to take home. It really was a “WOW” kind of evening and certainly a stunning start to our first meeting of 2024.

Do come and join us at our February 22 nd meeting at Wickham Market Village Hall

(IP13 0HE)when the demonstrator will be Doreen Robinson – Embracing colour. Your first visit is

FREE and then £5. Per meeting thereafter. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. There will be

refreshments a sales table and a raffle.
