Wickham & Pettistree Tree Planting

Dear all, firstly I hope you have a Happy and healthy Christmas.

To start the New Year with hope you may like to help keep Wickham (and Pettistree) green through tree planting.

This is an opportunity to plant your own oak and other native trees, all have been grown by local people from collected seedlings and acorns.

Location: Off Chapel Lane, east side along the Sandy Lane footpath, OS Ref 306553, this footpath leads to Mill Lane and is part of the green route on the parish walks leaflet. There is some field edge parking but it is muddy so if you can please walk from the village down Chapel Lane.

Project: We are working with the landowner who recognises the value of planting tree groups along the footpath. These will provide landscape enhancement, a skyline feature, and a linear habitat for wildlife. There is a young hedge along the other side of the path.

The project has been part funded by Suffolk County Councillor Nicoll.

We will need to consider Covid restrictions so please let me know if you would like to come along so I can make sure that numbers are managed!

In the current Tier 2 we can have six people outside working at a distance.

Please pre-book a session to dig and plant. Family groups are also welcome and children can care for and nurture their trees in the years ahead! There are many learning opportunities.

Dates: Thursday 31st December 2020 and Saturday 2nd January 2021 at 10.30am

Please bring a flask, snack, gloves, warm clothes. A small spade, secateurs and mallet will come in useful but other tools will be supplied.

I will be setting up further dates through January and February, weekends and possibly occasional week days so do let me know if you want to plant after the New Year.

If you do not want to be included in emails please let me know.

Best festive wishes

Anne
