Wickham Market Parish Council Update on EDF’s Sizewell C Project

On 27th May 2020, after 8 years of consultation, EDF submitted its Development Consent Order (DCO) to the Government’s Planning Inspectorate (PINS).

On 24th June, PINS formally accepted the application deciding it is suitable for examination.

This documentation has now been published on the Government’s Planning Inspectorate's website following the link below:

The Section 56 engagement period commenced on 8th July and will extend to 30th September 2020.

During this time individuals and interested parties can register on the PINS website to become an ‘Interested Party’ by completing a form and including a summary of points regarding the application, highlighting what they consider to be the main issues they wish to raise.

EDF are expecting members of the public and Parish Councils to view the documentation online.

All residents will have recently received a ‘Sizewell C Latest News’ booklet from EDF detailing how to view the documentation in hard copy or digitally in a mobile library unit.

This unit will come to the village hall car park in Wickham Market on Wednesday 29th and

Thursday 30th July 10am to 4pm.

You can just turn up but better still book an appointment by calling 0800 197 6102.

We recommend that you wear your own face mask.

The DCO application documents can also be viewed on the EDF website along with an interactive presentation:

Following the Wickham Market Parish Council public consultation event held on 4th September 2019 regarding EDF's Stage 4 consultation, the PC Sizewell Working Group, have continued to work in raising local concerns with EDF and our local councils SCC/ESC focussing on traffic issues and the impact of the proposed park and ride site.

We are working with SCC Highways Authority and EDF and are requesting that they design and fund traffic mitigation measures in order to deal with the adverse traffic impacts that Wickham Market and outlying parishes will experience.

This is due to the expected increased traffic volumes resulting from the proposed positioning, north of the B1078 roundabout, of the large Southern Park and Ride site for the duration of the construction of SZC (minimum 12 years).

The Sizewell Working Group are also liaising with our neighbouring Parishes namely Marlesford, Hacheston, Campsea Ashe and Pettistree.

Wickham Market Parish Council will make a ‘relevant representation’ regarding Sizewell C by 30th September and this will be informed by any progress made by EDF to resolve our current concerns and also by your views.

The WMPC documents and correspondence with EDF can be found on WMPC's website on the Sizewell C tab:

We have also added the Government’s Advice Note 8.2: How to register to participate in an Examination

If you are able to offer time to work through the submitted documentation, if you have relevant technical knowledge and can help in any way, we would be delighted to hear from you.

If you have not made your views clear to us previously please let us know of any concerns or opinions that you want the PC to take into account.

Please also note that the PC are holding an Extraordinary PC meeting Monday 3rd August at 7pm

This will be held to discuss both the SZC application, process and response and a Traffic and Parking Working Group Report.
