Visiting the coast from Wickham Market

Wickham Market makes a great base for visiting the coast. Located close to the A12 it is easy to find a quick and pleasant way to reach some stunning coast lines, passing through forests, heathland and rolling fields all under an abundance of open skies.

A few beaches on our doorstep:
Aldeburgh

Just 12 miles away Aldeburgh is one of those must visit places for people looking for a Suffolk seaside experience, offering a mixture of shopping, great places to eat and simply stunning scenery. It is not really a bucket and spade type of place unless you like stone castles rather than sand castles but it really is a firm favourite.

Thorpeness

Less shopping and more beach can be found a mile further north at Thorpeness. Just 13 miles from Wickham Market the area is ideal for visitors. Thorpeness has the added attraction of a Meare where you can hire boats and seek out the magical places featured in the Peter Pan stories. Thorpeness is also home to the famous house in the clouds - when you visit the area you will see what we mean!

Shingle Street

Just 12 miles away Shingle Street, near Hollesley, is a dramatic coastline of shingle and the reason for the name is clear. Where once bathing was dangerous because of fierce tides the shifting shingle has created areas where you can now swim safely - the shingle underfoot takes some getting used to!

The iconic white coastguard building was once a stone's throw from the sea, millions of tonnes of shingle now separate it from the waters edge.
