Set right on the banks of the River Deben, with stunning views of the river and woodland beyond, Boatmans really is a riverside getaway worthy of Mole, Ratty and friends. Situated amongst ambling country lanes, Boatmans is surrounded by lush countryside and sits above a large private garden rolling down to the river Deben, which has its own landing stage and rowing boat. This charming, detached cottage has 2 bedrooms (sleeping 3), is traditional in design with quirky modern touches, and enjoys superb views of the river and woodland beyond. Boatmans is positioned 4 miles from the A12 and close to the large village of Wickham Market, enabling easy access to the nearby Suffolk Heritage Coast. There is a generous welcome pack, which includes a gift card for RSPB Minsmere Nature Reserve 'or' a day pass to Ufford Park Health Club.

Enter into the conservatory, with its river and woodland views, through to the main cottage. There are steps between most rooms due to the cottage's hillside nature. The kitchen is well appointed with plenty of work surfaces and a breakfast table. In addition to newly installed oil fired central heating, the living room has a multi-fuel fire, which adds to the cosy feel of Boatmans. Upstairs is the large bedroom, which also enjoys a fabulous view of the Deben through onto woodland beyond. The bathroom is downstairs, immediately below the bedroom, with a luxurious full-length bath and large power shower. A Floor Plan is available upon request.

Outside there is plenty of space to explore and walk (including approximately a mile of river to row), meet the swans and soak up the Suffolk atmosphere in this "Special Landscape Area". See the Owner Profile section which contains further information about the bird and wildlife.

Wren Cottage.JPG

Wren Cottage

Description

Wren Cottage is a pretty little 16th Century cottage, 50 yards from the centre of Wickham Market; one of Suffolk's lovely unspoilt coastal villages.

Cottage Walk Through

  • This cosy holiday cottage has a lovely light sitting room with room to spread out and enjoy the roaring log burner.

  • If you are entertaining then there is a very well appointed kitchen with an Aga type cooker, belfast sink and dishwasher to make preparing meals easy.

  • There is a separate dining room which makes this place great for special occasions. In the front hall by the stairs there is a shower bathroom and upstairs 2 double bedrooms; one ensuite with a bath and hand held shower.

  • One of the bedrooms can be converted into a twin bed room and there is a hall big enough for a youngsters bed but not really big enough for a fifth adult, there is also room for a cot.

  • Outside there is a pretty courtyard with bench, table, chairs and BBQ facilities, the tree in the courtyard is lit up with fairy lights and there are tubs of flowers and herbs.

  • You can park outside the cottage to unload (see the image in the gallery) and there is safe parking in a new and safe cul-de-sac just 80 yards down the road.

  • The charming cosy character of this cottage along with its comfortable sofas and pretty antique furniture makes it a very relaxing place to stay in.

The Location

Wickham Market is 15 minutes from the wonderful seaside location of Aldeburgh and the lovely little coastal village of Orford, which is one of my favourite places.

The village has 2 very good tea rooms, a couple of pubs, a Chinese and an Indian restaurant, a good Fish n' Chips shop and some interesting shops, including an award winning Butchers and a couple of larger food stores. There are some excellent restaurants and gastro pubs within walking distance; across the fields and along the footpaths, or a short drive away.

Its position is great for exploring the best of the Suffolk Coast and the interesting towns are just 10 - 15 minutes away:

  • Framlingham with its impressive Castle, restaurants, shops and antiques centres.

  • Orford on the coast, also with a very interesting Castle and an oysteridge, restaurants, smokehouse, pubs, quay and nature reserve.

  • Aldeburgh which is famous for its arts, crafts and restaurants as well as still being able to buy fresh fish from the fishermen on the beach, but no ice creams or amusement arcades.
