Good Neighbours Scheme

Wickham Market Good Neighbours Scheme

Volunteers will help (free of charge) with all kinds of different jobs, such as shopping, one-off garden tidy-up, occasional dog walking, minor DIY, changing a light bulb, helping to write a letter or visiting for a chat.  They will also give you a lift although there is a 45p per mile charge for this, £1.50 fixed rate for jobs within the village. They will provide you with a befriender if you feel you’d benefit from someone to chat to from time to time. This service is dependent on having a suitable volunteer available. There is also a home-from-hospital service to support you after a stay in hospital. A volunteer could visit on a short-term basis to help with shopping, meal preparation, anything non-medical, to help you feel more comfortable. Please note that they are not an emergency service and a few days’ notice is needed for any help you might need. For further information please call the number below.

Good Neighbours is GDPR compliant. They only collect information necessary for their service, hold it securely and delete it when no longer needed.

The Resource Centre

Two bungalows linked by a reception area were converted into the Resource Centre in 2004 with funding provided by the East of England Development Agency and the County Council. The building incorporates the library and community rooms linked by an atrium. The latter offers interview, meeting and treatment/therapy rooms for hire to local groups and organisations. All the building shared by Suffolk County Council and the Wickham Market Partnership is suitable for disabled access.

For further information about hiring the Resource Centre community room please click here.

The Village Hall provides facilities for the local community. The playing field provides a recreational area with a bowling green, football pitch, children's area, skate park and a basketball court. The Area Archive Centre is located onsite, and the hall itself has one large and one small room suitable for hiring for all occasions.
