This general update is for those in our community who may be wondering what the next steps are for the George Pub project. In November last year we learnt that our application for an award from the Heritage Lotteries Fund (HLF) had been unsuccessful which leaves us two options as outlined in the Share prospectus; they are to make a second application to HLF or to maximise the value of the site and sell it. This decision is one for the shareholders to make and the Management Committee is working to provide detailed information so that full consideration can be made regarding both options. The timescales are determined by the National Lottery who last year suspended all future grant applications until completion of their 5-year review and introduction of a new Strategic Funding Framework for the period 2019-2024. In direct discussion with HLF we have been informed that the results of the review will be announced at the end of January, and at that time we should know the timing of future grant applications and HLF priorities regarding fund allocation. Early indication shows that they will become more connected with local economies, communities and places, a good sign that the George will match the future criteria. Once our research is finalised regarding both options, and prospective plans and costs are complete, they will be presented to our shareholders for a vote. Work is in progress to assemble the information needed by the shareholders and some can’t be progressed until after the results of the Strategic Review are released. However, our expectation is to be able to present the vote in late February/early March at which point we will keep you informed of the outcome.
