Geoff Harmer

As a boy growing up in Essex, I spent many hours making model sailing ships from plans and drawings. From that developed my fascination with working boats, the boatyards in Maldon, the creeks and marshes and

the yachts sailing the estuaries.

Since moving to Suffolk I have tried to capture the atmosphere of the beaches with their fishing boats and huts, depicting an ongoing way of

life here.

I studied portraiture and life drawing at St Martins and Central School of Art in London. I’ve spent most of my life as a designer and illustrator, but I have always painted and now do so full time. I have exhibited at the Royal Society of Marine Artists and had portrait commissions from the

Army as well as from private individuals.

I produce a range of work in various media including portraiture, and marine and landscape paintings of East Anglia and North Yorkshire. I also do demonstrations and workshops for groups and Art Societies.
