EDF Sizewell C Traffic Management Proposals for Wickham Market

INVITATION BY WICKHAM MARKET PARISH COUNCIL

View the EDF Sizewell C Traffic Management Proposals for Wickham Market

Village Hall Exhibition (for full detail and plans)

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th October, 10am to 4pm

The consultation runs from 27th September to 25th October 2021

You are invited to view detailed plans for a proposed traffic scheme prepared by EDF Energy. Proposals have been developed by a EDF, through a Working Group comprising Wickham Market Parish Council representatives (WMPC), East Suffolk Council, Suffolk County Council (SCC).

The Sizewell C Project, new nuclear power station, includes a Park and Ride site located north of the village in Hacheston. EDF expect the park and ride to be operational for some 8-11 years. It is expected that over this time, an additional 1050 cars and light goods vehicles will pass through Wickham Market daily during the years of peak construction.

WMPC have significant concerns regarding the impact of this additional SZC related traffic but consider it is appropriate to work with EDF to prepare for the potential of Sizewell C being given government approval. WMPC have made it clear to EDF that all measures possible should be implemented to avoid traffic passing through Wickham Market, not least through encouraging drivers to use the A14 and A12 rather than the B1078 and High Street. WMPC have put forward proposals to monitor drivers and ensure they use designated routes. This was presented as a paper to the Examination Authority but has not been adopted by EDF.

There are many aspects of the scheme which are of significant concern to WMPC, these include measures such as traffic reduction and formal speed reduction which have not been promoted.

A summary of the Traffic Management consultation will be provided by EDF after the consultation ends on 25th October.

Your views are essential and will assist WMPC to prepare further representations to SCC and EDF.

We will also update the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) through the submission of further evidence for the Sizewell C Examination before its formal end date of 14th October, we have also requested a later submission. Both written and verbal submissions have been made at each stage of the Examination since this started in March 2021 taking up a significant amount of volunteer time. You can view all our submissions to PINS on their web site here:

It is important that EDF receive as much feedback as possible on these proposals, your views are important as whichever scheme is put in place will be with us for many years to come. We have also requested that our neighbouring Parishes and residents consider and respond to the proposals.

You should have received a four-page leaflet/form from EDF through your door, however the plans on display at the Village Hall on 9th and 10th October will show more detail relating to gateways, build outs, and parking restrictions on Broad Road and the High Street.

We look forward to seeing you where there will also be specialist EDF support to explain the proposals.
