We have some updates on reintroducing library services.
Summary
All libraries will re-open for socially distanced, restricted browsing during the week beginning 12 April, apart from Newmarket and Saxmundham libraries (see below). This will apply from the first day the library opens during that week.
Libraries will begin to offer bookable slots to use our computers from the week beginning 29 March. You will need to call your library directly to book a slot. Please wait until your library is offering the service before calling them.
You’ll be able to use printers and scanners from the week beginning Mon 29 March.
The mobile library service will resume from Mon 12 April.
See when your library is offering bookable PC slots on your local library page. For general service updates see our COVID-19 page.
Library closure dates
All libraries will be closed for collections the three Easter Bank Holiday dates – Friday 2 April, Sunday 4 April and Monday 5 April. Libraries will also be closed on Friday 9 April to allow staff to prepare for the return of browsing.
Newmarket and Saxmudham libraries
Newmarket Library is currently closed due to ongoing building work, but we are hoping to open a temporary library in the Guineas Shopping centre in the next few weeks. Check the Newmarket Library page before planning a visit. You will be able to collect reservations from the temporary library. Saxmundham Library is only open for collections and returns, as it is operating from a temporary site until it moves to a new building in May.
What do we mean by “restricted, socially distanced” browsing?
You’ll able to visit the library at any point during its normal opening hours. You may have to wait before entering so we can maintain social distancing. There will be no counter service, so you will need to check titles in and out using the self-service machines. If you want to sign up a new member, sign up online instead. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to stay in the library for any extended period to read, research, study or simply spend time there. We’re aiming to allow a more normal, complete service from June.
Loans, renewals and charges
We will continue to suspend all charges for late returns. Loan periods remain extended to six weeks. You will continue to receive reminder emails. You can renew titles online, or at the self-service machines. To renew your titles visit our website and follow the links on the home page: https://www.suffolklibraries.co.uk
